Our adult bunk beds provide a strong, space-saving sleeping solution for grown-ups, with model-specific support ratings ranging from 20 to 40 stone per user. The collection includes reinforced metal and wooden bunk beds suitable for adults on both sleeping levels, with options for homes, guest rooms, rental properties and shared accommodation.

Choose from detachable single bunks, wider sleeping configurations and heavy-duty models designed for regular adult use. Each bed has its own construction, dimensions and support rating, allowing you to compare the range according to the sleepers and space available.

Strong Bunk Beds Designed for Adult Use

An adult bunk bed must provide dependable support without taking up the floor space required by two separate bed frames. Our collection includes heavy-duty steel, knotless rubberwood and solid pine frames, supported by reinforced mesh platforms, tubular steel slats or strong wooden slats depending on the model.

All models meet the BS EN 747 safety, strength and durability standard for bunk beds and high beds. Support ratings are stated per user, helping you select a suitable bed for the person using each sleeping level rather than relying on one combined figure.

Choosing the Right Adult Bunk Bed

The right model will depend on the support required, preferred material, number of sleepers and whether you need the flexibility to separate the frame later.

The Pentney HD Bunk provides the highest support rating in the collection at up to 40 stone per user. Its reinforced steel frame and heavy-gauge mesh sleeping platforms make it particularly suitable where a higher level of support is required.

The Anmer HD Bunk supports up to 25 stone per user and can be separated into two single beds. The Bircham is another detachable steel option, available in single and small single sizes, with support for users weighing up to 20 stone.

For a wooden finish, the Kelling and Langham use knotless rubberwood frames with supportive pine slats. The Kelling has a clean shaker-style appearance, while the Langham features chunky corner posts and panelled end sections for a more substantial look.

The Langham HD Quad Bunk provides wider sleeping areas in either a small double or double configuration, accommodating up to four sleepers. The Suffolk offers a detachable solid pine frame, handmade in the UK and available in single and small single sizes.

Metal or Wooden Adult Bunk Beds?

Metal adult bunk beds generally have a cleaner, lower-bulk appearance and are easy to maintain. Reinforced steel and mesh construction also allows models such as the Pentney and Anmer to provide high model-specific support ratings within a compact footprint.

Wooden adult bunk beds provide a warmer and more traditional appearance for bedrooms and guest spaces. The solid timber construction of the Kelling, Langham and Suffolk combines adult support with a choice of finishes and design styles.

Material alone does not determine which model is strongest. Compare the stated support rating, sleeping base, dimensions, guarantee and detachable options before deciding.

Adult Bunk Beds for Homes and Shared Accommodation

Adult bunk beds are useful wherever two or more sleeping spaces are required without overcrowding the room. They can leave more usable floor area for storage, desks and movement in shared bedrooms, guest rooms and compact properties.

They are also a practical option for rental properties, holiday accommodation, hostels and staff bedrooms. For frequent or higher-use environments, compare the construction, support rating and guarantee of each model against its expected use.

Detachable models provide additional flexibility because they can be converted into separate beds if the room layout or sleeping arrangements change. Wider quad configurations are better suited to situations where increased sleeping capacity is the main priority.

Adult Bunk Bed Safety and Mattress Requirements

Adults can use either sleeping level provided each person remains within the stated support rating. Only one sleeper should use each upper sleeping level at a time.

Always assemble the bed according to its instructions and install every supplied guard rail and fixing. The upper-bunk mattress must remain within the maximum permitted depth shown on the product page so the guard rail provides the intended protection.

Keep the ladder and access area unobstructed, position the bunk bed away from windows, ceiling fans and light fittings, and inspect the frame fixings periodically. Upper bunks are not suitable for children under six years old.

We recommend using mattresses with a limited mattress depth. you can find examples in our bunk bed mattress collection.
